Microsoft are going to create an open source cross platform framework for applications developers to utilize when building their games.
The framework will be lightweight, and scalable across the Windows Store, Windows Phone, IOS, and Android. Others may also be included.
Source article on the Verge suggests a job posting (which has since been removed) on the Microsoft careers page stated it was looking for a successful applicant to assist in achieving the following :
”We will create a modern framework that is open-source, lightweight, extensible and scalable across various platforms including Windows Store, Windows Phone, IOS, and Android.”
The possible motivation behind this according to the Verge is, Microsoft want to spread out to these platforms as an attempt to ‘win back’ developers that have favored their competitors to the detriment of the windows offering.
They believe that by providing Xbox Live as an alternative to the existing markets for example; Game Center, gamers and developers will prefer a simpler and more comprehensive one market fits all solution.
No details on when this is likely to happen, so lets see what the future holds.
